Chuma Mall Opening
As a precursor to Mandela Day, Thursday 16, July 2020, marks a new era for the township of Diepsloot with the grand opening of Chuma Mall. The R320 Million development is set to change the Diepsloot landscape forever by creating and providing access to a refreshing array of retail, financial and medical facilities to help uplift and revive this township community.
Situated at the corner of the R511 and 1st Avenue place, Chuma Mall falls within an area of growing property investment in the north of Johannesburg, boosting real estate value and improve the standard of living in Diepsloot and surrounding areas. Its proximity to the neighbouring Steyn City Lifestyle and Century developments is within an area estimated to be the fastest growing node in South Africa that intersects major cities in Gauteng, Pretoria and Johannesburg.
The Chuma Mall development was funded by the Momentum Property Opportunities Fund (MPOF) to provide the Diepsloot community with a vibrant retail experience and access to national retailers. The Mall's strategic position as a gateway to the township, will herald in new business and create a variety of opportunities for its residents.
Diepsloot's newest commercial retail space sports a single level 21 000m² gross leasable area that hold a capacity of 75 retailers, with 750 parking bays and a fully-fledged taxi rank tailored to accommodate the township and its neighbours. The mall boasts a tenant mix of national anchor stores, mixed essential services, reputable food and restaurant establishments, clothing, furniture and entertainment outlets and much more.
Eris Property Group as the Momentum Property Opportunities Fund's developer and Investment Manager, have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition and placing Chuma Mall as a game changer in the northern Johannesburg township area to ensure that Diepsloot residents enjoy the same benefits as their neighbours.
From its concept stage through to its development stage and on its completion, this Eris Property Group project has employed approximately 800 community members directly and indirectly of which, 350 were permanent jobs which includes the engagement of local enterprises for the provision of essential services such as security and cleaning and hygiene.
